Your Weakness, God’s Power. Your Weakness, God’s Strength.
As children of God, we are called to rely entirely on Him, acknowledging our weaknesses and embracing His power. It’s an incredible comfort to know that the Creator of the universe loves us so much that He desires to carry us through life’s journey. We are not meant to bear our burdens alone. Jesus invites us to come to Him, promising to be our burden bearer. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
God’s love for us is immense, and He does not want us to navigate life without His guidance and support. The Holy Spirit, given to us as believers, dwells within us. In Acts 1:8, we read, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This empowerment by the Holy Spirit equips us to fulfill God’s calling and assures us that we are never alone.
The Story of Gideon: From Weakness to Strength
The story of Gideon beautifully illustrates how God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Gideon, a man who saw himself as the least in his family and from the weakest clan in Manasseh, was hiding from the Midianites when the angel of the Lord appeared to him. Judges 6:12 recounts this encounter: “When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, ‘The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.’”
Gideon’s initial reaction was one of doubt and disbelief. He questioned how he could save Israel when he felt so insignificant. But God saw beyond Gideon’s self-perception and called out his true identity. God assured him in Judges 6:14, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” Despite his doubts, Gideon obeyed God’s call, and through his obedience, God delivered Israel from their enemies with just 300 men armed with trumpets and jars, demonstrating that the victory was by God’s power, not human might.
Just as God was with Gideon, He is with us today and forever. He calls us for such a time as this and empowers us through the Holy Spirit. God can do the miraculous through our lives when we understand our identity in Christ and trust in His strength. Gideon’s life changed when he recognized his identity in God. Similarly, our identity lies in Christ Jesus. On days when we feel weak and unable to move forward, we must remember that the God who created the heavens and the earth is our Father. In Him, we find strength, wholeness, and empowerment.
Bible Verses on God’s Strength
To encourage you in your walk with God, here are five Bible verses that remind us of His strength for us:
- Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
- Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 – “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
- Psalm 28:7 – “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”
- Ephesians 6:10 – “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
